Swedish Government Proposes Stronger Credit Gambling Ban
The Swedish Government is taking a big step to protect players by introducing a new credit gambling ban Sweden. This move aims to close loopholes in the current Gambling Act and ensure safer gambling for everyone.
Why Is the Ban Needed?
Right now, Sweden’s Gambling Act only bans credit at the point of sale. But players can still use credit from other sources, like credit cards or loans, to gamble. The new law will stop this by banning all forms of credit for gambling, both online and in stores.
What Will Change?
- All licensed gambling operators and agents will be banned from accepting bets funded by any kind of credit, including credit cards.
- Operators must not let players enter into credit agreements with third parties for gambling.
- If operators know a player is gambling with borrowed money, they must reject the bet.
- Both online and retail gambling companies must use current technology to block credit card payments for gambling, without affecting other purchases.
- Operators must also discourage the use of credit in their advertising, both in-store and online.
Are There Any Exemptions?
Some lottery operators may be exempt from the credit gambling ban Sweden. These exemptions will be managed by the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) and will focus on lotteries that support good causes, as long as protective measures are in place.
