Coljuegos seizes illegal gambling devices in an ongoing battle to protect citizens and healthcare funds. In the latest operations, authorities acted in Monteria and Tulua. They discovered slot machines, bingo boards, and even furniture built for illicit games.

The total impact is alarming. These criminal setups drained an estimated COP 311m ($78,000) from resources that could have supported healthcare. Therefore, shutting them down not only enforces the law but also restores fairness in the gambling market.

Thousands of Devices Already Removed

The fight is not new. Since 2024, Coljuegos has destroyed almost 11,000 illegal gambling devices. Meanwhile, in 2025 alone, officials have already confiscated 2,672 devices and dismantled 2,582 of them.

The largest share of these came from Tulua, Valle del Cauca. However, Monteria, Córdoba, also revealed a worrying 21 illegal slot machines across the city.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, stressed a clear message: every peso wagered without authorization reduces healthcare subsidies. Instead of funding treatment and medicine, that money goes into the pockets of mafias.

The contrast is striking. In the first half of 2025 alone, Colombia’s regulated gambling sector contributed COP 883.9bn ($225m) to the public system. This massive input shows why protecting the industry matters.

In Tulua, the uncovered venue failed to pay COP 150m in annual rights. Monteria’s illegal slots added another COP 161m in lost funding. Clearly, illegal operators weaken the healthcare system while legal businesses help sustain it.

What Comes Next

Coljuegos continues expanding its reach. Already in 2025, raids have hit cities like Bogotá, proving no region is safe for illegal operators. Therefore, citizens and businesses should expect enforcement to keep intensifying in the months ahead.
